Edward Cotton, intern

I’m a mental health and public health professional with over a decade of experience working at the intersection of trauma recovery, cultural identity, and community resilience. As a therapist, I take an empathetic, warm, and non-judgmental approach. I believe the therapeutic relationship is foundational to healing, and I’m committed to building a reliable and safe rapport rooted in trust, authenticity, and care. I’m trained in Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), a specialized treatment for PTSD, and also integrate elements of Adlerian Therapy and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) to tailor my work to each client’s unique needs. Whether we’re working through trauma, anxiety, identity, or life transitions, I lead with compassion and a belief that healing is both possible and deeply personal.

I’ve worked across diverse communities including serving in the Peace Corps in Botswana, where I provided leadership on mental health programs addressing gender-based violence, systemic oppression, and LGBTQ+ issues across community and district levels. This work was grounded in a commitment to equity and cultural responsiveness, which continues to inform my approach as a therapist. I’m especially passionate about supporting those historically overlooked by systems of care, and I bring both professional and lived experience as a Black, gay man to this work. My practice centers on creating a safe, affirming space where clients of all ages, from youth to adults, can explore their stories and build meaningful growth, healing, and wellness.
